The healthcare industry today is dynamic, both from efforts within itself to seek new and improved healthcare delivery systems and from external developments, in technology and government. As a vital part of healthcare industry, the health information profession must also be dynamic. The educational programme in health information management must respond to the projected future needs of the profession. To meet these needs, the student must be prepared for and willing to accept multifaceted role as a member of the healthcare team as administrator, planner, consultant, educator, researcher and practitioner.
The educational programme must be geared to the development of those skills and qualities need to fulfil those roles and to the development of those skills and qualities needed to fulfil these roles and to the development of attitudes and principles which will encourage continuing growth in a profession that is rapidly expanding in scope and responsibility in the dynamic environment of the healthcare industry.
The vision of the department of health information management is to be recognized internationally as a quality producer of health information management professionals equipped with the attitudes and principles that encourage lifelong learning and ethical behaviour in a rapid evolving profession.
